Named one of Forbes hottest car features of 2016, the Ford Edge camera wash system was designed to ensure camera visibility in incliment weather while keeping the sleek studio design of the Ford Edge.
The camera wash nozzle is enclosed in a bracket with the camera and extends in front of the vehicle to wash debris from the lens. Fig. 14A shows the nozzle in the retracted position and Fig. 14B shows the nozzle in the extended spray position.
The success of this nozzle has led to new product launches on the Ford Super Duty and Ford S-Max (Europe).
The 2017 Lincoln Continental camera wash system was designed to hide under the Lincoln emblem with the smallest packaging space on the market and washes away debris from the 360 camera to ensure visibility in incliment weather.
The micro-packaged camera nozzle attaches directly to the camera to reduce packaging space and reduce factors of tolerance stack ups between the nozzle and the lens.
The success of this nozzle has also led to new product launches on the Ford Edge (Export) and 2018 Ford Explorer.
As part of my first product launch in the industry, the BMW X5 and X6 headlamp wash system is a highly engineered design that is contained within the fascia of the vehicle and extends to wash away debris from the headlamp. Headlamp wash is a safety requirement in Europe and China.
